Peterborough Sports find themselves in a positive position as they begin life in the new calendar year. They currently sit in 15th place in the National League North with up to 3 games in hand on some of the rival teams. As well as this, they are through to the last 16 of the Isuzu FA Trophy after a convincing 3-0 victory over Isthmian League side Horsham on Saturday (13th). The games begin to come thick and fast now though for The Turbines and it doesn’t get any easier as they host 14th placed Farsley Celtic at PIMS Park on Tuesday night.
Managed by former football league striker Clayton Donaldson, Farsley Celtic find themselves sitting on 37 points after 27 games of the National League North campaign. They head to PIMS Park off the back of a great 2-0 victory over playoff chasing Scarborough Athletic on home turf with goals coming from Ben Atkinson and player manager Donaldson. Over the Christmas period, they fell to two 2-0 defeats to Scunthorpe United and prior to this they recorded a 1-0 victory over struggling Gloucester City. Although they do not have a prolific goalscorer within their ranks, goals often come from Ben Atkinson and Darren Stephenson. They have also been boosted recently by the signing of Michael Coulson from Scarborough Athletic, a player who has scored 2 crucial goals since arriving from the Seadogs in December.
Sports head into this fixture with plenty of motivation after equalling the club’s best record in the FA Trophy after reaching the last 16. Despite losing Oisin Gallagher and Hayden Cann due to being recalled by their parent club Lincoln City, The Turbines have been boosted by the return of defender Ryan Fryatt after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury. As well as this, Matty Miles returned to the matchday squad at Horsham after recovering from a fractured foot. Midfielder Dan Jarvis was also seen taking part in training prior to the FA Trophy game after recovering from a shoulder injury that he picked up in November. Joint manager Luke Steele has mentioned that the club are looking to bring in some new faces over the next couple of weeks to help build up the squad once again and have cover in all positions across the pitch.
